Human Relations Area Files (HRAF)

The Human Relations Area Files (HRAF) is a collection of ethnographic materials, mostly books, which provides historical and some contemporary information on the ways of life of people in over 350 cultural, ethnic, religious, and national groups around the world.  Located on microfiche, the material in HRAF is typically descriptive rather than theoretical, and the vast majority of the sources are primary documents which have resulted from field observation by anthropologists.  There are two manuals used to access the material in HRAF: Outline of World Cultures and Outline of Cultural Materials.  There is a separate manual called HRAF Source Bibliography for a complete list of the sources used for each cultural group.
