Welcome
to the Liberal Arts Division at College of DuPage
The Liberal Arts Division offers areas of study in Humanities, Communications,
Fine and Applied Arts, as well as coursework in developmental reading
and writing, and a variety of Honors courses. The Performing Arts and
Study Abroad also provide students a considerable range of options within
the Liberal Arts Division.
Culminating in three associates degrees, the Liberal Arts curriculum
is broad and rigorous, and provides much of the General
Education requirements for transfer to four-year programs.
Students with an interest in the arts can pursue an Associates
of Fine Arts (A.F.A.).
The breadth of options in the Liberal Arts Division includes a certificate
in Technical Writing and courses in Journalism, with opportunities to
work on an award-winning student newspaper. The Forensics Team, a national
champion, is composed of students from the Speech courses. Humanities
offers students the opportunity to study eight languages. The Applied
Arts programs include transfer and occupational course in Advertising,
Design and Illustration, Graphic
Arts Technology, Motion
Picture/Television, and Photography.
Both associates degrees and certificates are offered in the Applied
Arts programs.
Fine and Performing Arts opportunities for students are exciting and
varied. Student performance groups and five professional ensembles—including
drama, chorus, orchestras, and jazz groups—yield rich experiences
and fill the calendar at the McAninch
Arts Center. The work of visual artists is presented in
the Gahlberg Gallery and the work of students in the Wings Gallery.
Unique to the Liberal Arts Division are four Study
Abroad language immersion programs in Cost Rica, Spain,
Germany, and Japan. These programs help students apply what they learn
as they study in the host country.
The Liberal
Arts faculty are noted for their excellence in the classroom,
and many have published books and presented or performed at national
events and conferences. The quality of students’ work is a testament
to the faculty’s talents and commitment to fine teaching.
We appreciate the opportunity to greet you and look forward to hearing
from you at libarts@cdnet.cod.edu.
