  • Distance Education Clearinghouse
    The Clearinghouse offers a wealth of well-organized and formatted resources specifically targeted to technology-based instruction. Check out its “Funding Resources” section for an up-to-date listing of private and government grants programs.
  • The Foundation Center
    The center’s extensive site lists regional Foundation Center Libraries and provides an online version of Philanthropy News Digest, which offers current information about nonprofit activities and grant-making. The “Proposal Writing Course” pages offer advice about how to write and submit a grant application. “The Guide to Funding Research’ Page includes “Common Grant Application Forms.”
  • Federal Resources for Educational Excellence (FREE)
    FREE offers access to educational resources from over 40 federal government agencies as well as an area where educators, federal agencies and other organizations can communicate to develop Internet-based educational resources and Internet-based learning communities. The “Looking for Partners” message board allows teachers to conduct online conferences and searches.
  • The Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM)
    This new site organized by the Department of Education allows teachers, parents and students to search for instructional materials. Type a topic, grade level and other information into a search screen that then retrieves--from more than 140 web sites--lessons, instructional units and other free educational materials on that topic, for that grade level.
  • GPO Access
    The Government Printing Office’s site includes databases, federal agency files, and the Congressional Record, the Federal Register, Commerce Business Daily and other publications with listings of grant program announcements.
  • The Grantsmanship Center
    The Grantsmanship Center offers training in grant writing and fund raising as well as in nonprofit organization management. The site presents information on workshops and provides an online service that tracks new state and federal grants. Examples of fund-raising techniques, discussion groups and a directory of computerized mailing lists are available.
  • Innovation Network, Inc. (InnoNet)
    This site offers a step-by-step guide to grant seekers to assist in developing detailed program, evaluation and fundraising plans. The service is free, although you must register and get a password to use the online tools. You should be prepared to write about your organization’s mission and goals, then go into each of those goals to identify specific activities, outputs and outcomes you will seek.
  • Nonprofit Gateway
    Developed by 15 federal agencies, this site offers a directory to more than 300,000 government Web pages on grants, budgets, volunteer opportunities and agency partnerships.
  • Technogrants
    This site explains the programs and priorities of major philanthropic and government agencies which fund telecommunications and interactive technologies for schools, higher education non-profits, libraries, arts and cultural organizations health and social service agencies and grassroots community organizations. This site also provides grant writing tips for private and federal grants applications. Print and multimedia resources for technology-based instruction are also included.
  • U.S. Department of Education
    The Department of Education has established this online library of reports, statistics and legislation related to education. A conference and event calendar as well as a connection to state education agencies is offered. The “Teacher’s Guide to the U.S. Department of Education” explains the Department’s services, programs, publications and educational grant programs.
