Media Needed:
Standard CD-R disks should be used for data backup. CD-RW disks are more expensive and may not work on computers outside of the lab.
When using a new CD for backup, insert the disk before opening the Toast 5 Titanium application. When a new disk is inserted, a dialog box will open:

The term “HFS+/ISO 9660” means that the disk will be formatted to run on both Mac
and Windows platforms.
Select “Prepare” which is the default selection.
The disk will then appear on the desktop and is ready to have data written to it.
Open Toast Titanium from the Apple menu.
You should see the screen below:

On the top of the screen are icons for the type of CD that is to be burned.
Default is “Data”.
Save the documents to be burned to the Student Document Folder on the hard drive.
Drag the file or folder to the main window of the Toast software.
The file or files should appear in the window:

Press the red “record” button and a window will open:

If you want to use the disk over again, press “Write Session”, the default.
This will burn the file to CD.
Allow the disk time to be written and press “eject” when asked.

If you select “Verify” or if there is no activity for a short period of time, the software will check the data bit by bit for any errors.
Verification is normally not needed.
Your CD is now ready.
Note: for every session burned on the disk, an icon will appear on the desktop when the disk is inserted into the drive. A clean desktop is very important because in order for the disk to be ejected from the computer, every disk icon must be dragged to the trash.
