| Setup Intelligent Message Filter (IMF) in Exchange |
| Intelligent Message Filtering To combat the influx of unsolicited e-mail messages, also known as junk e-mail or spam, the Exchange e-mail server has been integrated with Intelligent Message Filtering (IMF) to help filter and manage the amount of spam being sent to your mailbox. Intelligent Message Filtering will move all your messages that it considers to be junk e-mail to a folder in your mailbox labeled “Junk E-mail.” IMF determines this by assigning a rating to messages based on the regularity of word associations, and identifies spam by monitoring what kind of messages users designate as junk mail. Messages receiving a high rating are regarded as spam, and moved to the Junk E-mail folder. Since IMF may move some legitimate messages to the Junk E-mail folder, such as email from listservs or news letters, you should monitor the messages being filtered to that folder. (Messages in the Junk E-mail folder older than 90 days will be automatically deleted.) Enabling Intelligent Message Filtering To enable IMF and filter junk e-mail: 1.
