[ IT Home | Helpdesk | Search IT ]

To use speech recognition from any phone at the College of DuPage:

  1. Press (if you are off campus, dial (630) 942-4111). You will then hear the Liaison™ system's greeting.
  2. Follow the voice prompts to reach the person or department.

If your phone has an Auto Dial button, you may program it for dialing 4111 automatically.

Auto Dial

To program phones which have an Auto Dial button to call 4111 automatically:

  1. Do not lift the handset.
  2. Press the Auto Dial Key. The flashing auto-dial indicator is activated.
  3. Dial the number to program into auto dial.
  4. Press the Auto Dial Key again. The flashing auto-dial indicator goes off.

DOs

  • Please speak directly and clearly into the handset of your telephone at a normal speed and tone.
  • Say the first and last name of the person you wish to reach.
  • The system is being monitored regularly for optimal performance. If you need assistance or experience any problem, take down the date, time and the name you requested, and e-mail or call your system manager, Kay Dreyer at dreyer@cdnet.cod.edu or call at ext. 2900.
  • If the system misinterprets your request, after three attempts it will direct your call to the operator.
  • Keep in mind that speech recognition performance can vary depending on the quality of certain wireless services and phones and also on noisy environments.

DON'Ts

  • Use your speakerphone. (Imagine yourself talking to someone over the speakerphone. Sometimes it is hard to understand, for you as well as for the system.)
  • Talk to other people when on-line with Liaison™. (The system will try to recognize what you are saying to the other person)
  • Play your radio in the background. (Once again, the system will try to interpret background noise)

For information about adding your name to the Liaison system see Speech Recognition using Liaison.
