Is Blackboard accessible?

Yes, Blackboard has fully implemented accessibility standards for electronic and information technology covered by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998. Accessibility and the Blackboard Academic Suite (http://www.blackboard.com/company/accessibility.aspx.)

The Blackboard Learning Management System is accessible to users with disabilities when used with the appropriate assistive technology. For visually impaired users Blackboard has certified the use of the JAWS Version 7.x application with Blackboard version 7.

Using JAWS

Tips for using JAWS with Blackboard can be found at the University of North Carolina’s website: Tips for Using Blackboard with JAWS (http://www.unc.edu/webaccess/bbtips.html#builders.)

Note: When displaying the Blackboard login screen the User Name field receives the focus. As a result JAWS may not be aware of the fact that it is in a form. To correct this hit the SHIFT-TAB key twice and then the TAB key until the focus is returned to the User Name field. You may then proceed with the login process.
