Q: How do I get started in the HVACR program?
A: You have to ask yourself two questions. First, do I want to go to
school full- or part-time? Second, do I want to earn a two-year degree
or a certificate? The HVACR program offers three two-year
degrees and two certificates.
Q: What courses should I begin taking in my first semester?
A: Here again, it depends on whether you want to go to school full- or
part-time. If you are planning to attend school full-time (full-time
is defined as taking at least 12 semester hours of classes), suggested
first semester courses can be found listed under each degree and certificate
offered:
. Service
Technician A.A.S. degree (PDF)
. Building Environmental A.A.S. degree (PDF)
. Contractors A.A.S. degree (PDF)
. Stationary Operators certificate (PDF)
. Service Technicians certificate (PDF)
Suggested courses for your first semester are listed in the information
for each degree/certificate.
If you are planning to attend part-time, then regardless of the degree
or certificate, we suggest that you enroll in HVACR 1100 first, followed
by HVACR 1105, HVACR 1161 and HVACR 1110 in that order.
Q: How long will it take me to get my certificate or degree?
A: Typically, you can obtain the Service
Technician certificate in 12 months if you begin taking classes in the fall semester.
The degrees can be completed in two years if you attend school full-time.
Q: How much will the program cost me?
A: The Service Technicians certificate will cost approximately $4,500,
including tuition, lab fees and books. The Stationary Operator certificate
costs about the same. The cost of the two-year degrees can be estimated
by multiplying the total credit hours for the degree by $116, plus
an allowance for books and lab fees.
Q: Can I visit the campus to meet the faculty and see the facilities?
A: Yes! We would be happy to show you around
and answer any other questions that you may have. Please contact the
program advisers for more information.
Q: What will my schedule be if I begin taking classes?
A: Many of the beginning classes are offered
during the day and evening. It is possible to take a full schedule
of classes and attend school mainly in the evenings. If you are taking
a full schedule of day classes, you will not be at C.O.D. eight hours
a day. Most of your beginning classes will probably be taken during
the mornings. A few classes are offered on Saturdays.
