Open Source Investigative Techniques

This two-day course presents techniques that can be used by security professionals in the private sector to investigate many types of cases. Each participant will be provided links to hundreds of websites allowing individuals to find personal information about their "targets" online. This course will cover popular social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in detail and will also cover many other sites that exploit the targets; aiding investigators in interviewing and identifying associates. This course will introduce steps to participants on how to manage and protect their personal information and online accounts when using these techniques. This course will cover many free and paid software applications that are available for the collection and analysis of social media and preparing the information collected for court proceedings. Students will be equipped with a software pack and reference website with direct links to aid in their investigations. Students will understand how to set up undercover accounts and how to utilize them in order to monitor their targets. Hours: 16
