GENERAL PROCESSING INFORMATION:
Completing your 2008-2009 FAFSA online
is the first step in applying for Federal Grants, State Grants, Federal
Loan, Federal Work Study and in some cases scholarships. The
2008-2009 FAFSA covers Fall 2008,
Spring 2009 and Summer 2009 semesters.
After filing your FAFSA online, the Office of Student Financial Aid
will receive your results electronically within 7 to 10 days. Please
note that we download FAFSA results once a week. After the Office of
Student Financial Aid receives your results electronically, you will
be contacted - by mail - to turn in additional information based on
your results. The Office of Student Financial Aid will send out three
requests for this information, after which, you will no longer receive
notices for missing information. It is the student's responsibility to keep the
Registration Office up to date with current address information!
Some students may be required to submit proof of citizenship, default status,
veteran status, verification of social security number, and/or proof of Illinois
residency. In addition, the Federal Processor will randomly select students for
further verification. If your FAFSA is selected for verification then you will
be required to submit copies of your Federal Tax Return to our office. The
Office of Student Financial Aid will not process you file until all required
documents are received. Incomplete paperwork will not be accepted. Regardless
of verification, all students are required to submit a signed and completed College
of DuPage Financial Aid Data Confirmation Sheet!!

2008-2009 Dependency Override
Form
The dependency
appeal form is not available on line. PLEASE NOTE: Parents’ unwillingness
to assist the student isn’t, in and of itself, grounds for a
dependency override. Nor can a school perform a dependency override
solely because the parents are unwilling to provide information on
the financial aid application (FAFSA) or information needed for verification. Also,
a student who is financially self-sufficient and/or lives apart from
parents cannot be considered for independent status based on those
circumstances alone. If, after reading the explanation above,
you believe that you do have special circumstances please speak with
a Financial Aid Specialist for more information regarding the Dependency
Appeal process. You
can contact out office at 630-942-2251 or e-mail financialaid@cod.edu
