Associate's Degrees

The Adult Fast Track program leads to a two-year associate's degree in one of the following areas:

Associate in Arts (A.A.) — Westmont
The A.A. degree emphasizes general education in the social/behavioral sciences and humanities. These courses are traditionally required in a variety of bachelor’s degree programs. Most of the courses are taught on an interdisciplinary basis, consisting of two related courses blended and taught together. The math course requires a background in algebra, so students may need to enroll in basic algebra in preparation for the college-level math course. Classes meet once per week, 6 to 10 p.m., with short vacation breaks twice per year. The A.A. degree is specifically designed for students who wish to transfer to any four-year institution to earn a bachelor's degree.

Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Human Services/Generalist — Westmont/Main Campus

The Associate of Applied Science in Human Services/Generalist degree prepares students to begin their careers in the field of Human Services as a Generalist. This degree focuses on the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to help people. Emphasis is placed on training the individual to deliver professional services that assist clients with their bio-psychosocial growth. Students have a choice of many theoretical and experience-based learning opportunities in the fields of mental health, advocacy and crises intervention.

Coursework will interweave Human Services courses during the first year of study. Students can continue on to obtain their general education requirements to obtain an Associate’s of Applied Science in Human Services/Generalist degree. The general education coursework requires students to take Psych 2280. Students entering this area of study must first complete the C.O.D. Math and English Placement Tests to assess preparedness for this course.

Students will take courses on the main campus during the first year of study and at the Westmont Regional Center during the second year. Classes will meet one night a week from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Associate in General Studies (A.G.S.)

The A.G.S. degree is designed for students who desire to arrange a program of courses to meet their own personal needs and interests. This degree generally provides more flexibility than other associate degrees. Half of this degree includes general education requirements (the same as those in the first half of the A.A.). The remaining courses depend upon the student, who can select from occupational/vocational courses, additional general education courses or electives that are offered outside of the Adult Fast Track program.

Students who previously completed college-level coursework frequently choose this degree because it allows flexibility to package coursework from a variety of areas. Students sometimes find that the less stringent math requirement in the A.G.S. makes this degree more easily attainable.

All of the above degrees are fully accredited by the North Central Association and the Illinois Community College Board. All degrees require that students satisfy the "Constitution" requirement. And all degrees transfer into most other accelerated programs for adult learners, though some programs may require additional coursework.
