In addition, May 19 to May 21, access to College Road from Park Boulevard will be closed and College Road will be closed from Park Boulevard to Service Drive. Access to parking lots on the south areas of east campus will be available from the Lambert Road side of College Road to Service Drive during this time.

From May 22 to 23, College Road will be closed from Prairie Drive to the west entrance of parking Lot K. Access from College Road to Prairie Drive will be maintained. Access to south parking lots on east campus will be available from Park Boulevard only. College Road will reopen by 4 p.m. on Friday May 23.

Beginning Monday, May 12, the entrance to Parking Lot K west of College Road will be closed for construction work [see attached map]. The Service Drive and east entrance to Lot K East will remain open during this time. In addition, parking in the west portion of Lot K will be accessible from Service Drive and the east entrance off of College Road.

Parking Lot S to Close for Reconstruction on June 2
On Monday June 2, the remainder of Parking Lot S (formerly Parking Lot L), located south of the Student Resource Center (SRC), will be closed for reconstruction.

This closure will include the drop-off circle immediately south of the SRC and Prairie Drive adjacent to the parking lot. Access to the staff parking lot south of the Community Garden will be available from College Road only.

Parking Lot S, the drop-off circle and Prairie Drive will reopen in mid-August. Pedestrian access to the SRC and Seaton Computing Center (SCC) will be maintained. Maps indicating areas of closure and pedestrian paths will be posted on this web site later this month.

Temporary Traffic Lights Activated
Temporary traffic lights remain activated at Lambert Road and Circle Drive, with the current signaling pattern unchanged. The pedestrian signal push buttons have been relocated to the wood poles supporting the temporary signals. Please use caution when traveling through or adjacent to work areas. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions or concerns about this project, contact Taylan Ekici at (630) 942-2988.

Summer Construction Phases for Roadway/Parking/Landscaping
The final phase of the Roadway, Parking Lot and Landscape project will take place during spring/summer 2008.

Included in this project are the following:

  • The parking lot south of the Student Resource Center (SRC), currently identified as lot L (after construction, this lot will be identified as lot S). It will be reconstructed to the standard of the other rebuilt lots. Handicap parking will be located immediately adjacent to the pedestrian plaza, south of the SRC and immediately adjacent to the west entrance of the Seaton Computing Center (SCC). Thirty-minute and guest parking will be located at the north end of the lot.
  • The completion of the intersection of Tallgrass Road and Lambert Road. A new traffic signal will be installed, and Circle Drive will be permanently closed.
  • College Road, which will be widened from Prairie Raod east to Park Boulevard. A right turn lane from College Road onto Park will be added. A right turn lane will also be added to northbound Lambert at College Road.
  • Sidewalks, which will be installed along the west side of Lambert, from Fawell to College and on College Road.

The project is scheduled in two phases. The first, starting March 22, includes the Lambert/Tallgrass intersection, the southern part of Lot L and the widening of College Road. The second, starting June 2, includes the opening of the Lambert/Tallgrass intersection and shifting of pedestrian traffic across Lambert to this intersection from Lambert/Circle Drive, the permanent closing of Circle Drive, the temporary closing of Prairie Drive south of the SRC loading dock to the entrance to the staff parking lot adjacent to the Community Garden, and the closing of the Circle Drive loop south of the SRC. [See Map for exact work site location.]

Traffic: During Phase 1, traffic will be impacted on Lambert and College roads, but through traffic will be maintained in both directions with the exception of sections of College Road, when sewer pipes have to be installed. Access to parking lots along College Road will remain, although some access points will be closed during portions of construction. Look for orange traffic information signs posted at various locations that will notify drivers of changing or changed traffic.

Parking: During reconstruction of Lot L during Phase 2, persons requiring handicap parking should use the lots on the north side of campus or south of the PE building. Additional accessible parking will be provided on a temporary basis if needed. Guest and 30-minute parking will be available in the lots north of campus.

Pedestrian: Limited access to the SRC and SCC will be maintained. A new sidewalk from the SCC south to the College Road lots will be installed during Phase 1. The west exterior entrance to the Berg Instructional Center (IC) will be closed during Phase 2. Access around the perimeter of the south and west sides of the SRC will be maintained. Access between the east and west sides of campus will shift from Circle Drive to Tallgrass Road after the start of Phase 2.

TE Center Soil Removal and Deconstruction of Temporary Lot
Soil removal from the Technical Education Center (TE) is currently under way. The soil will be relocated to the cricket fields at the southeast corner of Lambert and College Roads. This area will remain out of use until the new soccer fields are built there in 2008.

The removal of the temporary parking lot located on College Road just east of Lambert Road is also in progress. The materials from the lot will be reused in the 2008 reconstruction of Parking Lot T (formerly Lot L), located just south of the SRC building.
