TLC Tips of the Week:                          from Helen Olberg

This tip applies to PowerPoint 2003.

While editing a Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 presentation, you know that you can undo a change by using the Undo button, selecting Edit > Undo or pressing Ctrl-Z. You can also remove previous changes by Undo-ing multiple times. However, PowerPoint can only remember a limited number of changes - 20 to be exact. If you need to reverse the last 21 changes you made in a presentation, you're out of luck.

...but are you really out of luck?

You can customize PowerPoint to remember up to 150 operations, allowing for that many undos. (Consider that increasing the level of remembered operations will eat up much more of your available memory. Thus, it may be best to remember a lesser number, such as 40 or 50, unless you have at least 512 MB of memory. Feel free to experiment!)

Here’s how to change the number of operations remembered and consequently the Undos:

1. Select Tools > Options.

2. When the Options multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the Edit tab.

3. For Maximum number of undos, change the 20 to whatever you desire, from 3 up to 150.

4. Click OK to close the dialog box.

From this point forward, PowerPoint will remember your changes and allow your set number of Undos.
