TLC Tips of the Week:                          from Helen Olberg

This week’s tip applies to file renaming in Windows XP.

If you have a series of files to rename, you can rename all of them quickly with the same name followed by a sequence number. Examples include all the student files to be used for a class, all the pictures for a chapter for a book, all the photos files for a vacation trip.

Here’s how:

  1. Before starting, make sure that all the files are in the same folder.
  2. Select all the files to be renamed.
  3. Right-click one of the highlighted files and choose Rename.
  4. Type the new file name. The rest will be automatically renamed.
