Tips of the Week: from
Helen Olberg
This week’s tip applies to all who type on their keyboards.
Laying the
wrists on the edge of the desk or on a wrist rest while typing is common, but
not correct. While typing, your fingers should be positioned so that they hang
down naturally to touch the keys. The wrists should be in line
with the top of the hands.
Do not place your wrists on a wrist rest while typing; this will increase pressure on your wrists, which in turn can cause discomfort and injury to your hands, shoulders, and back. The wrist rest should be used to give you a place to rest the palms of your hands when you are NOT typing.
Your keyboard should be positioned at or below your elbows to prevent your wrists from falling below your fingers.
