TLC Tips of the Week:                          from Helen Olberg

This week’s tip applies to your computer and Windows.

Which should you turn on first, your computer or your monitor?

Always turn on your monitor BEFORE you turn on your computer. When you turn on your computer, as Windows loads, it checks to see which devices you have on your computer. If it doesn’t detect your monitor, it will assume a ‘generic’ monitor with ‘generic’ settings. It will not always take full advantage of your monitor’s capabilities.

Should you turn on your printer before you turn on your computer?

Generally, it is not necessary to turn on your printer first, but it is necessary to have it on before you instruct your application program to print.
