TLC Tips of the Week:                          from Helen Olberg

This week’s tip applies to Microsoft Word.

Do you get frustrated when inserting images into your Word documents? Consider using a text box to get more precise control over the position of a picture or clip art in your document. (A text box is a moveable, sizable container for text and/or graphics.)

  1. On the Drawing toolbar, click Text Box (or, on the menu bar Insert > Text box).
  2. Click the border of the box that contains the words "Create your drawing here" to remove it (if necessary).
  3. Click the border of the text box that appears, and drag it to where you want to position the graphic.
  4. Place your cursor within the text box.
  5. Add the picture or clip art to the text box as you normally would… click Insert on the menu bar, point to Picture, and choose Clip Art, From File, etc.
  6. Notice that you still have a blinking cursor in the box. You can type additional into the text box.
  7. Resize your image as desired.
  8. Use the options on the Drawing toolbar to change the box’s background (fill) color, border color, style and width, etc.
