What Do I Do First?

  2. Print all related materials:
  3. Get set up ahead of time and arrange for technical backup.
 
  4.  Consider adding touches that make a difference.
  • Greet participants as they arrive.
  • Provide soft drinks and a snack.
  • Make name tags or have participants introduce themselves before the teleconference begins.
  • Discuss the pre-conference questions before the teleconference.
  • Discuss the post-conference questions.

What is Soaring to Excellence?

Soaring to Excellence is a series of teleconferences which provide information and training to library support staff nationwide. These teleconferences have been broadcast live from College of DuPage to thousands of support staff throughout the United States and Canada since 1995. Students enrolled in the College of DuPage Library Technology Program can take an online course for college credit that is centered on the Soaring to Excellence teleconferences.
 
When do these teleconferences take place?
Three teleconferences are broadcast each year, generally in November, January, and March. Each program is two hours long, and begins at 12 noon Eastern time.
 
What are the v viewing times for the teleconferences?
  • Eastern 12 noon – 2 p.m.
  • Central 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Mountain 10 a.m. – 12 noon
  • Pacific 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
I would like to subscribe to the series. How do I do that?
Simply go to the Site Registration Page and fill out the form there.
 
I know other individuals who would like to view one, two or maybe all three of these programs. Can he or she do that?
Yes-you are welcome to invite other people to view Soaring to Excellence at your site. Please refer them to the Site Registration Page if they would like information on how to register for Soaring. They may also purchase videocassette copies of the Soaring to Excellence teleconferences.
 
Can I get college credit for attending the teleconferences?
Yes. Students throughout the country may take Soaring to Excellence for college credit. For those enrolled in College of DuPage Library Technology Program, these teleconferences can fulfill your "Selected Topic" requirement. For more information, please see the College Credit.

Troubleshooting
  • Is all of the equipment plugged in?
  • Have you chosen the correct band (C or KU)?
  • Have you input the correct satellite coordinates?
  • Have you turned on the TV monitor?

College Credit
Soaring to Excellence is a College of DuPage Library Technical Assistant Program course offered in the Fall quarter. In order to receive college credit, complete the following steps.
 
1. Apply for admission to College of DuPage
   (if you are not currently a student).
2. Contact Linda Slusar, the Library Technology Program Coordinator, with     questions or for permission to register late.
3. Register for LTA 190 Soaring to Excellence at College of DuPage.
4. Pay your tuition (this may be done online at time of registration).
5. Receive your online name and password from your instructor to access the     Soaring to Excellence online site.
6. View all three teleconferences.
7. Successfully complete the required class projects and email them to your     instructor.
