Course
Description : Study of research and
theory regarding social factors that influence and mold human behavior. Focuses
on attitudes, interpersonal relationships, including ethnic, racial, and gender
issues; attraction, conformity, communication, values, roles, prejudices, and
group processes. (5 lecture hours)
Course
Objectives :
1. Develop an
understanding of the relationship between social psychology and the social and
behavioral sciences.
2. Develop a good
understanding of the methods of research used and the difficulty in doing good
research.
3. Understand how
people develop perceptions of themselves and others.
4. Identify the
ways in which attitudes are formed and prejudices develop.
5. Explain the
motivations that direct individual behaviors.
6. Understand
group behavior and how it influences individuals.
7. Apply the principles
of social psychology to everyday experiences.
8. Develop an
understanding of interpersonal relationships with regard to race, ethnicity and
gender.

Grades and
Course Assignments
You will be graded
on several types of assignments (which can be modified at the discretion of the
instructor):
1. Research
Project - 30% of your final
grade.
2. Exercises
from the workbook - “Experiencing Social research”. These will count for 30% of your final grade.
3. Quizzes - 30% of your final grade.
4. Attendance
and Participation – 10% of your final grade.
