Petitions to Rescind Statutory Summary Suspension hearings are a key area of practice for prosecutors, DUI investigators and defense attorneys. The outcome of these hearings often sets the tone for the entire prosecution. They are frequently litigated in an aggressive manner by defense attorneys because the privilege to drive is of such importance to the clients/defendants. With the passage of the Ignition Interlock Law, we can expect to have more of these hearings with a vigorous and concentrated effort from the defense to obtain a rescission. The Suburban Law Enforcement Academy is presenting this one day, eight hour course that will help officers and prosecutors be better prepared to succeed in these hearings.

• How to conduct an investigation that will withstand petition challenges
• Hearing preparation, and strategies
• A review of relevant case law
• An understanding and demonstration of ignition interlock devices
