Instructor: Former DuPage County Assistant States Attorney and current municipal prosecutor,
Linda S. Pieczynski, the author of Illinois Criminal Practice and Procedure 2nd, Roll Call News,
a newsletter for law enforcement officers, and numerous books on code enforcement. She also serves
as an instructor for the International Code Council and Instructor of SLEA’s newest web training
initiative “Legal Update, On the Job”.
Program Information:
There have been more substantive changes in the law in 2009 then in any other time in the last decade.
Law enforcement officers must familiarize themselves with the new rules on search incident to arrest
searches, police-citizen interactions at traffic stops, and 17 year olds being subject to the Juvenile
Court Act. In this seminar Ms. Pieczynski will cover these important developments that will have a direct impact
on law enforcement in the near future along with other topics of concern.
Included in this class will be the following:
- Search incident to arrest after
Arizona v. Gant and Herring v. U.S.
- Police-citizen interactions in light of
Arizona v. Johnson, and People v. Cosby
- Warrant checks after People v. Harris
- 17 year misdemeanor offenders and Juvenile Court
as of January 1, 2010. The role of the juvenile officer during interrogation
- New sex offense related crimes including grooming, posting
information on the internet, unlawful use of encryption, cyber stalking, sending a public conveyance travel ticket to a
minor
- Demonstration of SLEA’s newest training initiative on the
web for law enforcement agencies, “ Legal Update"
- Update, On the Job” presented by Attorney Linda Pieczynski
and Chief Ray Byrne of the Lombard Police Department
