Nothing can be highly charged, both in a law enforcement agency and the public, as internal affairs. A fair internal affairs process can improve ethics, morale, and support from the community. Proper management and investigation of complaints against law enforcement personnel is crucial to the well-being of a department. This 2-day, program will provide the participants the knowledge and insights to administer and conduct timely, objective and thorough internal affairs inquiries.

• Types of misconduct/corruption and environmental factors
• How supervision affects departmental climate
• Criminal versus administrative investigations
• Who should handle internal affairs investigations
• Complaint acceptance processes
• Legal decisions affecting internal affairs
• Investigative techniques for internal affairs
• Impact of civilian oversight on law enforcement
• Police shooting investigations

**Cancellations for this class must be received by SLEA 35 days prior to the start of the program in order to avoid being billed!**
