Instructor Special Investigator Hale P. Guyer , Ogle County State's Attorney's Office, is part of the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy's training staff and has taught across the United States and Europe. He has appeared on Court T.V., Tech T.V., and has written for Law Enforcement Magazine.
High-tech identity theft, cyber stalking and cyber hacking have been referred
to as the fastest-growing crimes in the U.S. today. Identity theft and
the resultant credit card fraud have been called "an epidemic"
and "a new challenge for law enforcement."This class educates
all law enforcement officers, regardless of prior computer knowledge,
how cyber criminals utilize the internet to commit these crimes. Class
participants gain practical experience regarding these crimes through
utilization of our mobile computer lab.

- How data mining for information is accomplished
- Computer intrusion
- Methods used to stalk and harass victims using electronic media
- Methods to protect yourself and the public from being victimized
- Techniques utilized to determine what personal information of yours
is already online
- Basic procedures to use when investigating these types of crimes
- How to establish a crime prevention program for victims of electronic
crime
- How to prepare a computer crime case for prosecution

class must be received by SLEA 35 days prior to the start of the program
