Program Information:
The retention of quality law enforcement personnel
continues to be a challenge of every police agency today. As new
employees enter the field of law enforcement they face a stressful
transition from civilian life into the unique culture of law
enforcement. Whether you are in a civilian support roll or a new officer
learning how to effectively communicate with your co-workers and the
general public it is a foundational level skill that will have a
significant role in determining ones short and long term professional
success. This one day, 8-hour program, will help new officers and
civilian employees identify the typical communication boundaries and
barriers that employees encounter. The curriculum will also provide
personnel with the necessary skill set in sustaining positive morale,
while increasing work performance and reducing work related stress.
Topics Include:
- How to properly communicate in your role
within the “Rank Structure”
- How to handle the Rumor Mill · Communicating with Training
Officers (FTO’s, Mentors etc.)
- Communicating across Generational Boundaries
- Proper Communication due to shift schedules/conflicts (email
communication, voicemails etc.)
- Contributing as a Team Player
- Working in a Union Environment
- Handling Confidentiality
- Communicating with the General Public and Difficult people
- Customer Service
**Cancellations for this class must be received
by SLEA 35 days prior to the start of the program in order to avoid
being billed!**
