Developing Effective Motivational Techniques in Law Enforcement

Hours: 8
Tuition: $95

Course Description:

This program focuses on one of the most challenging aspects of law enforcement leadership and supervision, and specific techniques for motivating diverse persons within law enforcement.  Effective motivational approaches and techniques are not a “one size fits all” subject.  Most departments for example may have as many as four generational cohorts within various shifts.  Older officers most likely have a very different world view and perspective than their younger counterparts.  The generational, ethnic, religious and gender diversity within law enforcement agencies combined with the diverse personalities of supervisors presents a significant challenge to providing effective motivational environments.  This in turn is complicated by the fact that most departments are expected to address more issues and cover more areas of responsibility than police agencies of past eras.

This course focuses on four key aspects of motivation in law enforcement agencies:

  • The trends and challenges facing law enforcement agencies

  • The challenges of diverse groups (generational, gender and ethnic diversity

  • Techniques for motivating diverse groups and personalities

  • The supervisor’s style and how he/she should address motivating their personnel

The final outcome for this training is that each participant will develop a personal plan for addressing motivational issues with members of their team.
