The 40-hour, course
fills the natural void in management and supervisory training for those
command officers/supervisors that have yet to attend command level development
programs. Students attending this program will gain knowledge and the
abilities necessary for assuming increased responsibilities in their
respective agencies. This program curriculum focuses on the conceptual
framework of leadership at the personal level, organizational leadership
and leadership as it relates to interpersonal relationships.
Program participants
will be provided with an overview and understanding of leadership/management
theories, traits, behaviors, and values by the individual through teams,
and the organization.
Prior experience
in management or supervision is not a course prerequisite. However,
individuals who have worked in a leadership capacity may be asked to
share their experiences during discussion of specific topics.
Topical
Areas:
- Examination
of ethical leadership from the perspective
of law enforcement.
- Major leadership
concepts and to relate them to an organization’s mission, goals,
and operation.
- The various
roles and competencies of a leader and
supervisor in interfacing of those roles with other roles
within an organization.
- Theories of
leadership for the purpose of individual and organizational effectiveness.
- The role of
a manager vs. leader within a law
enforcement organization.
- To develop
an awareness of approaches for evaluating leadership qualities in
terms of benefits to an organization.
- Development
and understanding of performance evaluations/coaching and counseling
accountability
within a law enforcement organization.
Instructor
Information:
This course has a cadre of instructors who are Executive or Command
level officers with extensive law enforcement leadership and management
experience.
**Cancellations
for this class must be received by SLEA 35 days prior to the start of
the program in order to avoid being billed!**
