Program Information:
This 24hour hands-on program is designed for law enforcement personnel,
coroners or medical examiners who have responsibilities as they relate
to crime scene investigation, evidence identification, collection and
preservation. This curriculum is loaded with live fire exercises and
focuses on shooting situations most commonly dealt with by law enforcement.
Students will learn about the theory and mathematics of bullet trajectory
while conducting mock crime scene practicals.
Curriculum
Foundation:
The course is built upon a curriculum in keeping with principles laid
out by the International Association for Identification (IAI). Its structure
will assist those students in obtaining the IAI Crime Scene Investigator
(CSI) certification and will also provide the necessary foundation for
SLEA’s advanced Crime Scene Technician/Investigator courses.
Students are required to bring their department's digital or 35mm camera and tripod to class.
Topics
include:
- Management
of a shooting scene from the perspective of
an evidence technician
- Documentation
of a shooting crime - Indoors and Outside
- Photography
of the shooting scene
- Diagram
a shooting scene utilizing dowelling, string and/or lasers
- Be able
identify radial and concentric fractures on glass
- Be able
to make general objective statements concerning estimated angles of
impact showing the direction of force
**Cancellations
for this class must be received by SLEA 35 days prior to the start of
the program in order to avoid being billed!**
