Basic Medical Response for Law Enforcement Personnel

Hours: 8
Tuition: Tuition Free Grant Funded

Program Information:

This 1-day, 8-hour program will provide law enforcement personnel with a basic understanding of initial medical treatment for emergency situations. Through lecture and hands-on exercises, students will learn to identify types of serious injuries and provide basic life saving techniques during the first few critical minutes.  These tactics are useful in treating injuries to fellow officers, victims of crime, and offenders.  Class exercises will involve applications of first aid techniques specific to police officers and discussion of useful and effective equipment available to police officers.

Students are encouraged, though not required, to bring department issue CPR/First Aid equipment, not to include AEDs. Upon successful completion of this program participants will become CPR/AED certified through the American Heart Association.

Some of the Topics/Benefits:

  • CPR/AED training
  • Emergency moves or extractions
  • Controlling bleeding
  • Severe trauma treatment (skull fractures, open chest wounds, broken bones)
  • Dealing with sudden illnesses (seizures, hypothermia, heat stroke)
  • Triaging during mass disaster/terrorist incidents
  • Evaluation of first aid equipment
  • Teaching techniques that students can utilize and share with officers of their agency
  • Working with local Fire Departments or Fire Protection Districts

Students should be dressed comfortably.  Class includes several hands-on exercises and a lot of moving around.  No medical training is necessary.
