Basic Evidence Technician Course

Program Information:
This 40-hour hands-on certification program is designed for law enforcement professionals,Coroners/Medical examiners with the knowledge and skills to locate, document,collect and preserve items of evidentiary value at a crime scene.The course curriculum is built from the principles and standards set forth by the International Association for Identification (IAI) and relevant Scientific Working groups such as SWGTREAD.This course provides the foundation for SLEA’s Advanced Crime Scene Technician/Investigator courses: Bloodstain Evidence, Bullet Trajectory Reconstruction and Death Investigation programs.

Donald Comstock is a detective with the DuPage County Sheriff's Office Forensic Investigations Unit and is a certified Crime Scene Investigator(CSI) through the International Association for Identification (IAI). Detective Comstock is a member of the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force, DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force, Felony Investigative Assistance Team (FIAT/DuPage), and the DuPage County Accident Reconstruction Task Force(DUCART).

Jonathan Pugsley is a Detective with the DuPage County Sheriff's Office and has been a member of the Forensic Investigations Unit for 14 years. Detective Pugsley is a certified Crime Scene Technician through the International Association for Identification(IAI), and Illinois State certified Crash Reconstruction Specialist and is currently a team leader for the forensic sections of the Felony Investigations Task Force (FIAT/DuPage) DuPage County Accident Reconstruction Task Force (DUCART) and the DuPage Major Crimes Task Force.

Students must bring:
Their departments 35mm or digital camera, flash and tripod
Evidence kit
Appropriate Evidence Processing Clothing
Department forms for recording of evidence

**Cancellations for this class must be received by SLEA 35 days prior to the start of the program in order to avoid being billed!**
