FTO-Field Training Program
The San Jose Model

This 3-day, 24-hour program has been designed for experienced communications personnel selected to serve as Field Training Officers with probationary employees. The curriculum emphasizes the FTO’s role in assisting probationers certify for solo communications operations by applying the knowledge, skills and abilities brought to the job and using and applying them according to agency policy, procedures and standards.

The San Jose Field Training Model in existence since the 1970’s has been implemented in Law Enforcement, Communications and Corrections organizations at the national, state, county and municipal levels and has proven to be reliable. This model includes training strategies and documentation to include the Daily Observation Reports, the Supervisors Report, End of Phase Report, Task List and Call/Activity Log.

  • The Field Training Evaluation Process (FTEP)
  • Roles and Responsibilities of the FTO
  • Methods of Instruction – Adult Education
  • Overriding the Probationary Employee’s Decisions
  • Stress Management
  • Sexual Harassment and Hostile Working Environments

**Cancellations for this class must be received by SLEA 35 days prior to the start of the program in order to avoid being billed!**
