Critical Incident Dispatching/Active Shooter

Program Information:

Before patrol officers or tactical teams arrive to the scene of a critical incident i.e. an active shooter, officer involved shooting, or an act of terrorism, communications personnel have a vital role. Their ability to efficiently and effectively gather needed information and provide it to their officer/1st responders which can greatly reduce the possibility of casualties. This one day, 8-hour program will help communication personnel work through a mental checklist of what information is most important, what should be broadcast to those responding, and how to communicate and assist those on the scene with necessary updated information. The training will be provided for the dispatcher from the mind set of both communication personnel and the public safety personnel. The course will utilize presentation, group think and scenario based debriefings.

Topics Include:

  • Preparing for the critical incident

  • What information should be obtained during initial emergency calls

  • How to handle heavy call volumes for critical incidents

  • Deferred police response to non-emergency calls

  • Dispatching officers to a critical incident(Alarm tones,assigning units, etc.)

  • Using multiple radio channels and restriction of channels

  • Initial information to provide responding officers

  • Organizing and utilizing other agencies(EMS personnel, mutual aid, etc.)

  • Handling on-scene transmissions(Dedication of Dispatchers)

  • Coordination of communication with EOC (Updating information)

  • Dealing with a blitz media inquires during a critical incident

  • Post incident communication personnel debriefing

 

**Cancellations for this class must be received by SLEA 35 days prior to the start of the program in order to avoid being billed!**
