Introduction to Bloodstain Pattern Recognition

Program Information:
This 8-hour
informational course is designed for crime scene investigators, crime
scene supervisors, coroners and/or medical examiners who attend crime
scenes involving violent death. This introductory course will give the
participant the skills in recognizing when crime scenes that include
evidence of bloodshed benefit from an examination of the bloodstains and
bloodstain patterns present.

Nick Stahlke is the Forensic Science
Training Coordinator for the Wisconsin Department of Justice, State
Crime Laboratory system. He has over 20 years of experience as a Team
Leader in processing crime scenes involving homicide and analyzing
bloodstain and bloodstain patterns. Nick has been involved in many high
profile homicide cases to include the Steven Avery, Brendan Dassey,
James Koepp and David Yates cases. Many of the crime scenes that he has
processed have included the interpretation of bloodstain patterns. His
current responsibilities include the coordination and training of the
activities of the Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Scene Response
Teams. Nick was also involved in an episode of Forensic Files entitled
“Trial by Fire”, that aired on the Discovery Channel (which highlighted
a bloodstain pattern examination).
