Description of Organization:
The Transition Program targets District 203 students who have graduated high school (either from special education life skills programs or self-contained academic programs) and want to continue their vocational, community and domestic training. The program currently has 22 students each with their own goals and schedule who work at various jobs in the community, perform volunteer work, practice functional life skills and learn to fulfill their social and leisure time as young adults.

Description of Service Learner Role:
Students will work as peers for our students primarily during social and community activities. They will be instructed and supervised by staff as they participate in activities and socialize with students. The activities will include trips to local interest areas, shopping, social skills training, leisure activities and preparing lunches. Our students greatly enjoy socializing with young adults their age and benefit from the role modeling they receive.

Organization Requirements:
Confidentiality is strictly adhered to and each service learner will be asked to read and sign a confidentiality letter prior to beginning their service.
