General food processing and sorting hours are: Monday - Thursday 9am-Noon, Tuesday & Thursday 1pm-4pm, 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month 6pm-8:30pm, 2nd Thursday of the month 6pm-8:30pm, and Saturdays from 9am-11:30am.  

Description of Organization:
NIFB acquires donated food from retailers, manufacturers, corporations, and community resources and distributes it through its network of more than 530 food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, and other nonprofit food assistance sites. Over 61,000 different individuals receive assistance every single week in our13 northern Illinois county service area

Northern Illinois Food Bank distributed over 33 million pounds of food in 2009, through its network of partner agencies. NIFB currently serves nonprofit agency partners in Boone, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Will, and Winnebago Counties.  NIFB has been committed to helping feed hungry people for over 25 years.

Description of Service Learner Role:
Product Processing & Food Sorting – sort, evaluate, clean, and package donated food prior to distribution.

Food Recovery – volunteers needed 7am–3pm each weekday.  Assisst a staff driver with picking up donated product at area grocery stores. All product is brought back to NIFB and unloaded. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. 

Agency Loading Assistant – volunteers needed to help load agency vehicles when they come to pick up their orders. Volunteers need to be at least 18 years of age and be able to lift 40 pounds. The following shifts are available, and two volunteers are needed per shift:

Due to the training involved, making a commitment of one shift every one or two weeks is required.

Office and Clerical Support – Monday through Saturday each week with flexible hours. Help needed in filing, data-entry, preparing mailings, research, etc.
