Description of Organization:
Naper Settlement is a re-enacted village showing the agrarian lifestyle of those who settled in the early days just west of Chicago. The purpose of the museum is to educate and preserve history. Costumed interpreters relate the stories of what life was like in their buildings and non-costumed volunteers assist in office support functions and special events.
Description of Service Learner Role:
For special events, assistance is needed to construct props and sets; coordinate skits and costuming; and help with event logistics. Areas of learning for All Hallows Even can include: English Literature, speech, theater and construction. Areas for Christmas Memories can include: history (holiday traditions of the period) and art/decorating. All include event planning. Events are on the museum grounds.
Organization Requirements:
A schedule and duties must be agreed upon between the Service Learning student and the Museum and a standard Naper Settlement application must be completed prior to start of project. All customer service rules and museum procedures will be explained and must be followed. The goal is for both a learning experience and fun.
Number of Placements Available:
There are limited positions available per event. Individual placements can be arranged.
