Days/Hours Available for Service Learners:
Museum Open Hours: Monday 9-1 pm (9-5 PM if day off school), Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays 9-4pm; and Fridays 9-8 pm, Saturday 9-5, Sundays 12-5 pm. Third Thursday of each month open until 8 pm.
Volunteers who greet visitors and interact with the public can volunteer during our open hours above. Office volunteers can volunteer Monday through Friday between 9-5 pm.
Description of Organization:
DCM is an interactive, hands-on Children's Museum whose mission is to stimulate
curiosity, creativity, thinking and problem-solving skills in young children. DCM is the 9th most visited cultural attraction in Chicagoland with an average of 1000 visitors per day.
Description of Service Learner Role:
Serve as a Museum Assistant greeting visitors, resetting exhibits and playing with children in the math, science and art exhibits. Office volunteers help with data entry, taking and uploading photos, bulletin boards and general clerical work.
Organization Requirements:
Minimum 2 hr./wk. commitment for 2 months. Interview, background check and short training required. .
