Description of Organization:
DuPage County Animal Care and Control is a self-supporting (non-taxpayer funded) county department designed to perform the following functions:
1. Prevent and control rabies through bite investigation and rabies registration.
2. Enforce state and county animal control and welfare laws.
3. Operate a shelter for stray and owner-relinquished non-native animals.
4. Adopt unwanted animals to responsible homes.
5. Euthanize unwanted animals not suitable for adoption.
6. Promote responsible pet-ownership and animal welfare through counseling and law enforcement.
7. Rescue animals that are lost, diseased, injured, or in peril.
8. Provide public education programs for adults and children.

Description of Service Learner Role:
Service learners have the opportunity to assist staff in a variety of different aspects of the organization, depending on the course and interest of the student. These opportunities include: animal care (feeding, cleaning, walking), web design, marketing and public relations, public events, educational activities for school and community groups, pet therapy programs, accounting, veterinary assistance, and creating public policy.

Organization Requirements:
All students must complete a DCACC volunteer application and attend an orientation.
