Description of Organization:
The CoACH (Coordinating Action for Children's Health) Care Center is a not-for-profit children's care center. Founded by parents of medically fragile children, the center's "CoACH Approach" offers a continuum of care through care coordination, training and direct patient care services at Our Children's CoACH House on their Naperville campus.
CoACH Care Center's mission is to serve and promote a better quality of life for children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) and their families within their community. CoACH was founded in 1992 and depends on donations and grants to continue its effort to care for children and families.
Description of Service Learner Role:
Assist with computer data entry and receptionist duties, computer maintenance care and creating excel spreadsheets. Plan and implement child life activities for children with special needs or assist with current activities (i.e. arts and crafts, reading books, computer games, or wheel in strollers, wheelchairs or wagons). Provide some child care under supervision of CoACH House nursing staff. Gardening, planting, brush removal, nature trail clean-up and weed pulling may also be involved. Plan Family Fun Days (plan games, recruit volunteers, plan catering, etc.). Plan parent seminars.
Below only for nursing students in clinical:
Provide clinical care to a child under supervision of clinical instructors and the Registered Nurses of CoACH Care Center.
Organization Requirements:
Volunteer application, DCFS background check, and TB shot required.
