Description of Organization:
CEP Youth Leadership is a non-profit youth services organization that designs and implements education, prevention, and development programs for children and teens from 17 diverse communities throughout Lyons and southern Proviso Townships. CEP Youth Leadership offers a variety of dynamic programs and activities designed to help young people reach their highest potential. CEP Youth Leadership's programs aim to promote leadership skills, foster positive relationships, and provide opportunities to engage in community service, resulting in life-long civic responsibility and a unified community.
Description of Service Learner Role:
Tutoring: The service learner will assist in preparing materials for the After School Tutoring Program as well as work with students between the ages of five and twelve on homework and other academic activities. The service learner will help prepare materials and assist with the training of other volunteer tutors. The tutoring program begins in October and runs through the end of April at the CEP office in LaGrange on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM.
The Hangout: The Hangout After School Program aims to engage fifth through eighth grade students in activities that will increase confidence and encourage teamwork and leadership. Service Learners will help tutor students with their homework and help run games and activities. They will also help supervise on field trips and with planning local service projects. The hours during the school year are generally Monday through Thursday 3-5PM.
Education Through Imagination: Education Through Imagination is community based tutoring program geared to support education needs related to the ‘minority education gap’ in the LaGrange community. Service Learners will help tutor students with their homework and help run games and activities. The hours during the school year are generally Tuesdays & Thursdays 3:30 PM-5:30 PM.
