Description of Organization:
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet, translates God's reconciling love into professional human services, advocates for a just and compassionate society and brings together members of the community, church, business, health care and government to develop effective responses to human needs. They commit to define these needs, seek solutions, and call forth other resources so that those they serve are empowered to achieve for themselves satisfying and productive lives. Catholic Charities isn't just a charity for Catholics, they serve everyone.
Description of Service Learner Role:
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet, has two opportunities available:
- Assist in furnishing apartments in DuPage County for Catholic Charities clients. Service learners will aid in moving and delivery of furnishings and other related household items as well as cleaning of storage areas. Volunteers are also needed on an "as needed basis" for other minor labor activities such as painting, etc.
- Office Volunteers are needed to help in our Community Services Department performing a variety of office tasks including monitoring of phone messages, filing, copying, collating, assisting with mailings, etc.
- Out Of Poverty Class Assistant: Childcare assistants are needed to watch children while parents attend teh Catholic Charities "Out of Poverty Class." Classes are held Monday mornings from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Lombard office. A child's playroom is provided on-site down the hall from the classroom.
