These guidelines are based on the most current information received, but can be subject to change by the transfer school.  Therefore, any student planning to transfer should contact the transfer school about his/her program at College of DuPage.  Transfer guides are available in both printed and website formats.  Printed formats might not reflect the most current information.  Please check the website at http://www.cod.edu/dept/regner/maintest.htm or contact the Counseling and Advising Service (SRC-2044).

A.  Subject of Agreement

College of DuPage and Franklin University enter into the following articulation agreement governing the matriculation of graduates of College DuPage AA, AS programs, and graduates of other associate degree programs who have completed the Illinois Articulation Initiative General Education Core, into Franklin University baccalaureate programs.

B.  Purpose of Agreement

The intent of the agreement is to facilitate a seamless transition from the COD associate program to the Franklin University baccalaureate programs, including the Internet-based online degree programs offered in conjunction with the Community College Alliance (CCA).

C. Students

The agreement is designed to serve primarily COD graduates who are interested in the areas of accounting, business and computer information systems.  However, the agreement will also facilitate the transfer of students from other areas and students who have not completed an associate degree.  Further, any COD student admitted to Franklin University is eligible to matriculate on the main campus of Franklin University at Columbus, Ohio, on any of its branches and extension centers, or via the Franklin University on-line programs.

Quarter to Semester Conversion Guide

"HOW TO READ THIS TRANSFER GUIDE"

With the start of the Fall, 2005 term College of DuPage will switch from a quarter to semester system. All the transfer guides will contain both quarter and semester course articulation information to assist students and faculty advisors during this transition phase. Quarter term classes have three digit course numbers, while semester course have Bolded four digit course numbers:

For example, Engli 101 is a quarter course and Engli 1101 is a semester course. In the transfer guides, articulation tables will show a number of course articulation arrangements, for example:

Speec 100, 1100
In the above case the Speech 100 course or 1100 can be used to meet a requirement.

Engli 102 + 103, 1102
In above case, English 102 plus 103 or English 1102 can be used to meet the requirement.

Math 115, 1115 and 116 and 117, 1116
This case describes two situations: 1.) Math 115 equals 1115 and Math 116 + 117 equals 1116
2.) Math 115 + 116 + 117 equals Math 1115 + 1116

The transfer guides are a valuable tool to assist students and faculty advisors with the transfer process. Given the complex nature of the articulation process should you have any questions regarding course equivalencies contact the College Articulation Office at 630/942.2500.

TRANSFER INFORMATION

The Community College Alliance is a partnership between Franklin University and College of DuPage, through which twelve Bachelor of Science completion degree programs are offered completely online, as an innovative alternative for students looking to continue their education. Franklin's majors are Accounting,  Applied Management,  Business Administration, Computer Science, Digital Communication, Healthcare Management, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Management, Management Information Sciences, Marketing and Public Safety Management.  Franklin accepts the entire associate's degree from College of DuPage, as well as a series of bridge courses students complete from College of DuPage, leaving only a minimum number of hours required from Franklin online. Support services (advising, library, etc.) are provided locally by the community college and virtually by Franklin.

Bridge courses are classes offered at College of DuPage which help "bridge the gap" between the associate's degree course work and the online bachelor's degree completion program. These courses are required for the bachelor's degree and may serve as prerequisites for upper level courses.

Students may complete course work at both schools simultaneously. However, students will need to complete any necessary prerequisite courses prior to taking advanced level classes from Franklin.

Students will need to request that College of DuPage send official copies of your transcripts directly to Franklin University. This should be done upon application to Franklin so that an official evaluation of credits can be completed, and maximum transfer credits can be awarded. In addition, a final copy of a student's transcripts will need to be sent to Franklin upon completion of bridge course work.

Applying is easy. Students can go to the counseling office at College of DuPage and pick up an information packet or call Franklin toll-free at (888) 341-6237 ext. 6288. Complete and mail the application to Franklin. The application is also available for completion on-line at www.alliance.franklin.edu , for more rapid processing.

Joyce Upham,  Franklin University Regional Director is assigned to assist College of DuPage students and can answer questions regarding transfer credit, program requirements, prerequisites, registration, etc.. To contact Joyce call 1-888-341-6237 ext. 8947 or upham@franklin.edu .

Throughout the student's associate degree and the bridge courses, students will register as usual at College of DuPage. Students can register for Franklin courses through our web site www.alliance.franklin.edu (click on "Registration and Admission") or by calling Franklin, (888) 341-6237  and talking with your Regional Director or one of our Community College Alliance Student Services Associates.

Books required for your bridge courses will be available at the College of DuPage bookstore. The books required for Franklin's on-line courses are available through the college division of Barnes & Noble bookstores, and will be delivered to you.

Students can get Financial Aid as long as they have a high school diploma, GED, or associate's degree. To get started, complete a FAFSA (available at College of DuPage or on-line) and the Franklin University Campus Aid Application (available at Franklin's web site or by mail or fax from Franklin's Financial Services Department).

To simultaneously take bridge courses at College of DuPage and on-line courses at Franklin, you must complete a request for a Consortium agreement (available at Franklin's web site). The consortium agreement makes it possible for the courses being taken at both schools to be counted towards your total enrollment and used to determine your aid. The Financial Aid Office Franklin University can be reached at 1-888-341-6237.

Learning on-line is a unique process and Franklin wants students to feel comfortable with the requirements prior to beginning the program. The information packet will answer many questions and also provides a checklist of relevant issues to help students determine what is needed to be successful. (The information packet is available the College of DuPage Counseling, Transfer, and Advising Office or by calling Franklin University toll-free at (888) 341-6237.  You may check out a demo course to see if online learning is right for you by visiting: http://www.alliance.franklin.edu/1719.cfm

Starting an on-line class is a very simple process. Students will access their course through Franklin's web site, click on the professor information button, send the instructor an e-mail indicating participation in the class. The instructor will respond with a password for full access to the class.

The Franklin virtual classroom is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Because 90% of the course activities do not require interaction with others, students can access them at their convenience. Options for the (10%)  portion of the course which does require simultaneous interaction with other students and the professor, will be made available at a variety of times, so students will have several choices for those activities (i.e., chat rooms, teleconferences).

Bridge courses are paid through College of DuPage, so the payment process will remain the same. For the Franklin courses, students can either mail a check for your balance to Franklin University's Business Office (201 S. Grant Ave., Columbus, OH  43215) or charge by phone by calling (888) 341-6237 ext. 6232.

Grades for Franklin courses will be mailed within 2 weeks of the end of the term.

Students must notify Franklin University directly of their intention to withdraw from any of the Franklin classes. This can be done by completing an add/drop form on the Alliance web site, or by calling (888)341-6237.
