Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship
Purpose:
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship assists students from
Benedictine University and College of DuPage. The scholarships are available
on a competitive basis to the students of these academic institutions.
Two are awarded to C.O.D. students worth $1,000 each.

2 @ $1,000
Deadline:
December 1, 2009
Eligibility:
• Currently attending Benedictine University or College of DuPage
• 2.5 cumulative GPA
Selection - Applications are evaluated on the following
criteria (in this order)
• Essay
• Personal Statement
• Letter of Nomination (from professor/advisor on official school
letterhead)
• Academic Achievement (including CGPA and past academic performance)
Your complete application should include all below:

LETTER OF NOMINATION: Please submit ONE current
letter of NOMINATION, addressed to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 2008-09
Scholarship Program committee, on school letterhead from a college official,
professor, or advisor who can discuss your:
a ) Academic and extracurricular achievements
b ) Personal qualities such as motivation, leadership, and commitment
c ) Potential for future success and contributions to your school
3) PERSONAL STATEMENT: Submit a ONE PAGE personal statement that includes: work and volunteer efforts,
activities and affiliations, personal and professional qualities, statement
of financial need, etc.
4) ESSAY: A TWO PAGE typed essay (double spaced, 12 pt. font) addressing:
a) How have the ideals taught and demonstrated by Rev. Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. made an impact on your life directly?
b) How will you specifically make an impact on the lives of others based on his teachings?
5) TRANSCRIPT (S): Submit full transcript(s) that include your
previous and most recent courses at either Benedictine or College of DuPage. (Financial Aid office will provide)
**It is the student’s responsibility to submit a complete application
and all supporting documents in one package to the
Scholarship Coordinator in the Financial Aid Office. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Applications will not be accepted after the submission deadline date.
Please note: Scholarship recipients will be invited to attend the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast at 7:45a.m.
on Monday, January 19, 2009, where portions of scholarship essays will be shared out loud. Recipients will also be given a moment to express their feelings regarding the MLK Scholarship to the audience.
