Summer Band - Fall Registration
No Summer Band will be run this year. Registration for Fall Semester will begin in June. First rehearsal for Fall 2008 is Monday, Aug 25, 2008 in AC137 at 7pm.Terry Redford Biography
Mr. Redford studied music at DePaul University finishing his Bachelor of Arts in Music degree at Elmhurst College. He later received his Masters in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. When Mr. Redford was nineteen he was appointed as the Director of the Catholic Youth Organization Youth Band.
Later he founded the Driscoll Catholic High School and Grade School band programs. Mr. Redford moved to public school music education and became the Director of Bands at Wheaton Central High School. Mr. Redford is currently the Director of Bands at Lemont Township High School in Lemont Illinois. Mr. Redford has performed as a professional trombonist with the CYO Bands, the VanderCook College Band, DePaul University Band, Elmhurst College Band, the Elmhurst Symphony, the DuPage Symphony, and the West Suburban Symphony, the Brass Tracks Jazz Orchestra, and does many other professional performances throughout the Chicago land area.
In 1990 Mr. Redford was awarded the "Extra Mile" Award by the Faculty, Administration and School Board of Lemont High School, and in 1998 Mr. Redford received the Chicago land Outstanding Music Educator Award. In Mr. Redford founded the "State of the Art" Catholic Concert Band Competition in 1980, which still is running today, and has been the co/host for the Mid West Music Festival since 1991. Mr. Redford became director of bands at Lemont high school in 1989. During his tenure his marching band program was recognized as 1st in class for eight years and his concert band has been first in class for fourteen years. The jazz band program has performed for a major dinner dance fundraiser for eighteen years that is hosted at the Willowbrook Ballroom, and in 1998 Mr. Redford instituted Lemont High Schools Musical theater program.
Mr. Redford has been an adjudicator, and clinician through out the mid west. He has been the guest conductor for the SWIC and SICCA conference festivals, and has presented seminar on computer music technology for the SSC conference. As the fourth director of the College of DuPage Community Band, Mr. Redford looks forward to being the conductor of a program that exemplifies the process of continuing music in the lives of those who enjoy it.
About the Band
The DuPage Community Concert Band is a course offering from the College of DuPage ( Music 1180). Rehearsals are Monday evenings from 7:00-10pm throughout the academic year ( 2 semesters).
The band plays two concerts per semester in the 800 seat McAninch Arts Center Mainstage.Membership is open to all high school graduates with woodwind, brass or percussion experience who are otherwise qualified to register. Auditions are required for chair placement but no one is refused membership.Membership is open in all sections.

Founded by Bob Marshall in 1969, the initial band started as a day concert band for students and a night band for the community. In 1982, Steve Hanson became the director of the band consolidating the day and night groups into one community group. The size of the group grew during Hanson's tenure from 20 members to about 60.Mark Hengesh was appointed the third director of the band in 1993 . Under Hengesh's direction, the band grew to over 80 members, participated in two international tours to Europe, the Wheaton Summer Music Festival and a feature band performance at the 2004 Midwest Music Festival. Mark Hengesh retired in 2007.
Audition Information
All new members for will need to make arrangements to audition with Terry Redford prior to rehearsal starting time . Auditions should consist of the following, #1 one or two scales that allow the director to hear tone and range, and #2 any piece of music that A: the auditonee likes and B: shows what kind of skills,the auditonee has.
