What is the Innovation Incubator?
The Innovation Incubator is a new effort to encourage the initiation and evaluation of strategies to increase student learning through innovative teaching methods at College of DuPage. To this end, the Innovation Incubator has started to build a community of faculty and administrators dedicated to research, development and appraisal of new approaches to teaching and learning. Innovation Incubator supports the AQIP criteria “Helping Students Learn” within the College of DuPage community. To help promote educational effectiveness, periodic “What are we learning?” informational e-mails will communicate to the college community research and/or educational resources related to teaching and learning.

The first and principal activity of the Innovation Incubator is to support specific research projects. Each project starts with an innovative idea proposed by a faculty member. The idea is then investigated and developed into a test project. Projects are then implemented in some classes. Measurements are taken, the effect of the idea on learning is determined, and results are communicated throughout the college. Ongoing "jamming" sessions with all principal investigators support the development and execution of these projects. Since the establishment of the Innovation Incubator in Fall Quarter 1996, more than 20 faculty research projects have been initiated.

Pilot projects supporting multi-section assessment efforts are beginning during Spring Quarter 2001.
