COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a two credit course designed to teach basic reading skills to students with limited proficiency in reading. Major emphasis is placed on developing word recognition, word analysis skills, vocabulary development and comprehension. This course may be taken two times for credit. It is highly recommended that the student get additional individualized instruction at the Reading Assistance Area.

A spiral-bound notebook for journal entries
Note: Student should not buy books until instructor gives placement test.
Additional materials will be available in the Centers for Independent Learning as assigned.
ORIENTATION/ATTENDANCE
Attendance required at weekly appointment.
EVALUATION OF STUDENT PERFORMANCE
Students will complete weekly assignments, including readings, exercises and journal entries. Students will also complete graded assessments on a weekly basis and complete diagnostic testing at the beginning and end of the term to evaluate progress.
