COURSE DESCRIPTION
Reading fundamentals course in which students who have beginning reading
skills learn to associate sounds with consonants, including consonant blends,
consonant digraphs, and silent consonants; with vowels, including long and
short vowels, r-controlled vowels, diphthongs, vowel digraphs, and y; and with
the schwa sound. Using a multi-sensory approach, students learn basic sight
words, practice decoding individual words, and read words in sustained text.
Course may be taken two times for credit.
COURSE MATERIALS
Students may be asked to purchase materials from EDCON Publishers or other
sources.
Additional materials will be available in the Centers for Independent Learning
as assigned.
ORIENTATION/ATTENDANCE
Attendance required at weekly appointment.
EVALUATION OF STUDENT PERFORMANCE
Students will be evaluated on the basis of completion of exercises,
activities, and teacher-made assignments. Students will also be evaluated based
on progress and mastery tests, as well as teacher observation of student
performance and participation. Students may also be required to visit the
Reading Assistance Area as a part of this course.
