MATHEMATICS 1432 - Precalculus II: Trigonometry

COURSE DESCRIPTION
3 credit hours
A formal study of trigonometry with emphasis on concepts needed for calculus. Topics include, but are not limited to, formal definition of trigonometric functions and circular functions, radian measure, inverse trigonometric functions, graphs of trigonometric functions and inverse trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities, trigonometric equations, DeMoivre’s theorem, solution of triangles, polar coordinates and applications. Prerequisite: Mathematics 1431 (or college equivalent) with a grade of “C” or better or a qualifying score on the mathematics placement test or a qualifying A.C.T. math score.

            Unit 1: CHAPTER ONE—Trigonometric Functions

CHAPTER TWO—Acute Angles and Right Triangles

MyMathLab Unit 1 Homework and TEST #1

Test 1 covers all sections of Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.

Calculators may not be used on Part 1.

A scientific calculator is needed for Part 2*.

 

            Unit 2: CHAPTER THREE—Radian Measure and the Circular Functions

                        CHAPTER FOUR—Graphs of the Circular Functions (4.1 – 4.4)

                          MyMathLab Unit 2 Homework and TEST #2

                        Test 2 covers Chapter 3 all sections and Chapter 4: sections 4.1 – 4.4.

                        A scientific calculator is needed for Part 1*.

                        A calculator may not be used on Part 2.

 

            Unit 3: CHAPTER FIVE—Trigonometric Identities

                          MyMathLab Unit 3 Homework and TEST #3

                        Test 3 covers all of Chapter 5.

                        A calculator may not be used on Test 3.

 

            Unit 4: CHAPTER SIX—Inverse Circular Functions and Trigonometric Equations

            Unit 5: CHAPTER SEVEN— Vectors and Applications of Vectors (7.4-7.5)

                        CHAPTER EIGHT—Complex Numbers and Polar Equations (8.1–8.5)

* PROGRAMMABLE AND GRAPHING CALCULATORS ARE NOT PERMITTED.

This is a three semester hour credit course.

The prerequisite for Math 1432 is Math 1431 (or college equivalent) with a grade of C or better OR a qualifying score on the mathematics placement test OR a qualifying A.C.T. math sub-score.

You need a commitment to study and the time (6 – 9 hours per week) to complete the assigned work.
