Math 1116 – Technical Mathematics II

COURSE DESCRIPTION

5 credit hours
A continuation of Technical Mathematics I emphasizing problem solving-skills using trigonometry, common logarithms and natural logarithms.

 

COURSE MATERIALS

Follow the instructions below to locate information on the textbook and other materials for this course.

1.      From COD home page, click on myACCESS.

2.      Click on Search for Credit Classes.

3.      From the Term drop-down box select the term.

4.      Choose your course from the Subjects drop-down menu.

5.      In the Course # field, enter your course number.

6.      In the Section field, enter the course section number if known.

7.      From the Course Types drop-down menu select Flexible Learning.

8.      Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on SUBMIT.

9.      Click on the Section Name and Title link.

10.  Click on Click here for prices of required textbook(s) and supplies and course material information will be displayed.

Unit 1: Relations and Functions – Chapter 3, Sections 1 - 4

            Roots and Radicals – Chapter 1, Sections 4, 6; Chapter 11, Sections 1 – 6 

                                              Chapter 14, Section 4

            TEST 1 – Covers all of Unit 1 material (Non-graphing calculators may be used)

 

Unit 2: Systems of Linear Equations – Chapter 5, Sections 3 - 7

            Exponential and Logarithmic Functions – Chapter 13, Sections 1 - 6        

           TEST 2 – Covers all of Unit 2 material (Non-graphing calculators may be used)

 

Unit 3:

            Circles – Chapter 2, Section 4

            Trigonometric Functions – Chapter 4, Section 1, Chapter 8, Sections 1 – 4

            Vectors – Chapter 9, Sections 1-6        

            TEST 3 – Covers all of Unit 3 material (Non-graphing calculators may be used)

 

Unit 4: Trigonometric Identities – Chapter 20, Section 1-3

             Trigonometric Equations – Chapter 20, Section 5

             Inverse Trigonometric Functions – Chapter 20, Section 6

             Complex Numbers – Chapter 12, Sections 1 – 6 

            TEST 4 – Covers all of Unit 4 material (Non-graphing calculators may be used)

 

Unit 5:  Sine Waves – Chapter 10, Sections 1 – 3

             Plane Analytic Geometry – Chapter 21, Sections 1 – 6

             TEST 5 – Covers all of Unit 5 material (Non-graphing calculators may be used)

 

Non-programmable, non-graphing calculators may be used on all tests.

 

Math 1116 is a 5 semester credit hour course.

 

The prerequisite for Math 1116 is a grade of C or better in Math 1115.

 

You should be prepared to study 10-15 hours per week to complete the assigned homework.
