English 0482 (Appointment) - Approaches to College Reading II

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed for students to continue to develop a critical reading framework. Computer-assisted instruction in an electronically collaborative environment may be used. Course may require student visits to the Reading Assistance Center for individualized instruction. May be taken twice for credit.

Ten Steps to Advancing College Reading Skills, 4th edition

  A personal dictionary such as The American Heritage Dictionary , 4 th ed. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 2001.
  A spiral-bound notebook to be used for a Reading Reflection Notebook.

Additional materials will be available in the Centers for Independent Learning as assigned.

ORIENTATION/ATTENDANCE
Attendance required at weekly appointment.

EVALUATION OF STUDENT PERFORMANCE
Students will complete weekly assignments, including readings and exercises. Students will also complete weekly tests at the Assessment and Testing Lab. Students will create and follow a personal reading plan that includes keeping a reading log and writing reflections on readings. Students may also be required to visit the Reading Assistance Area during the term for extra assistance.
