Anthropology 2200 – Introduction to Anthropological Methods

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Provides an overview of the  major methods of field work and research design in anthropology and related social and behavioral sciences.  Students will analyze one or more topics using appropriate qualitative and quantitative methodological techniques.  Some field work may be required.

Prerequisite: None  4 Credit Hours

One research paper, four film commentaries, field project #1, five field projects or one service learning project, and extra credit exercises.

Read: Spradley and McCurdy and Kutsche- read any of the enthnographies that may help you in choosing a micro-culture /subculture.  Depending upon your choice of method and method book read either, The Ethnographic Interview- part one and Appendices A, B, & C, or read Participant Observation-part one and Appendices A & B.
